1. Musée du Louvre

6. Jardin du Luxembourg
   Commissioned by Marie de Médicis, this garden combines formal French-style flowerbeds with looser, shaded paths where students, readers and strollers all share the space.
7. Centre Pompidou
   A building that shows off its pipes, stairs and structure instead of hiding them, and that changed what people expect from a museum.
8. Marché des Enfants Rouges
   Under a covered hall that dates back to the early 17th century, this small Marais market combines fresh produce stalls with counters where you can eat on the spot.
