What to see in Nice

1. Promenade des Anglais
   This avenue opening onto the Baie des Anges is Nice's great balcony: you walk between the sea, the Belle Époque facades and the shifting Mediterranean light.
2. Colline du Château
   This wooded hill overlooks both the old town and the Baie des Anges, and it is the best place to understand how Nice is laid out.
3. Vieux-Nice & Cours Saleya
   Cours Saleya and the lanes of Vieux-Nice are the living heart of the city, with ochre and pink facades, flower and produce stalls, and squares where you want to linger.
4. Musée Matisse
   Set in an ochre Genoese villa surrounded by olive trees on the hill of Cimiez, the museum tells the story of Matisse's life in Nice, where he lived and worked until his death.
5. Musée Marc Chagall
   This museum brings together the large paintings Chagall devoted to the Bible, in a building designed with him so that light and color become part of the work.
6. Plage de la Réserve
   Between the port and Cap de Nice, this pebble beach tucks into the rock, with small coves and terraces set into the cliffs.
7. Chez Pipo
   Chez Pipo has been serving socca a short walk from the port since 1923, in a plain dining room with a wood-fired oven right in the middle.
8. La Merenda
   La Merenda occupies a small room in Vieux-Nice that keeps the feel of the city's old working-class eateries.
