What to see in Marseille
- Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde
Standing on the highest natural point in the city, la Bonne Mère watches over Marseille and can be seen from almost everywhere. - Vieux-Port
The Vieux-Port is the beating heart of Marseille, a narrow harbour where fishing boats sit beside sailing yachts, with the city rising all around it. - MuCEM
The Mucem sets Mediterranean culture right on the water, between a 17th-century fort and a perforated concrete cube by Rudy Ricciotti. - Calanques (Callelongue)
Callelongue is Marseille's last village, a tiny fishing harbour squeezed between the sea and the cliffs, where the road ends and the trail begins. - Le Panier
Le Panier is the part of Marseille where you can best feel the city as it was before the big boulevards: narrow lanes, laundry hanging from windows, colourful facades and small squares made for lingering. - Plage des Catalans
This is a proper sandy beach in the middle of the city, a short walk from the Old Port, where locals come to swim, play ball games or simply sit facing the sea. - Chez Fonfon
Set on the Vallon des Auffes, a small fishing harbour still in use a few minutes from central Marseille, Chez Fonfon has long been associated with bouillabaisse. - Le Rhul
Set on a rock along the Corniche Kennedy, Le Rhul is a family-run house open since 1948 and known in Marseille for its bouillabaisse.
