What to see in Chamonix

  1. Aiguille du Midi
From Chamonix, a cable car takes you in a few minutes to the foot of glaciers and rock walls you would normally only see from afar.
  2. Mer de Glace (Montenvers)
The Mer de Glace is the largest glacier in France, reached by a small rack railway that climbs from Chamonix through the forest.
  3. Brévent
The Brévent is one of the finest viewpoints over the Mont-Blanc massif, seen from across the valley.
  4. Lac Blanc (randonnée)
This high-altitude lake in the Aiguilles Rouges gives one of the finest face-to-face views of the Mont Blanc massif.
  5. Centre de Chamonix
The centre of Chamonix is a mountain village where pedestrian streets and stone and timber façades open onto the peaks of the Mont Blanc massif at almost every corner.
  6. La Calèche
Opened in 1946 and still run by the same family, La Calèche is a Chamonix restaurant where you eat inside what feels like a small museum of everyday mountain life.
  7. Le Cap-Horn
This restaurant in the middle of Chamonix pairs seafood, sushi and a few Savoyard dishes in a warm, candlelit setting a short walk from the Arve.
  8. Chambre Neuf
This bar on the ground floor of the Hotel Gustavia, opposite the train station, is Chamonix's best-known après-ski address.
