What to see in Mumbai

  1. Gateway of India
This stone arch, completed in 1924, commemorates the landing of King George V, who came in 1911 for his coronation as Emperor of India and was the first British monarch to visit the country.
  2. Marine Drive
This promenade of just over three kilometres follows the curve of Back Bay, lined with Art Deco buildings in pastel facades.
  3. Grottes d'Elephanta
The Elephanta Caves hold a remarkable group of rock-cut Hindu sculptures, mostly dedicated to Shiva, carved into a hillside on a quiet island.
  4. Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus
Built in the Victorian era in an Indo-Gothic style, the station has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004.
  5. Dharavi (visite guidée)
Dharavi is one of the largest informal neighbourhoods in the world, but it is first of all a dense network of workshops that make and recycle goods for the whole city.
  6. Colaba Causeway
This commercial street linking Colaba to Old Woman's Island is lined with stalls and shops selling clothes, jewellery, leather goods and souvenirs.
  7. Haji Ali Dargah
This white shrine stands on a small islet a few hundred metres off the coast, linked to the mainland by a narrow causeway that disappears under the sea at high tide.
  8. Plage de Juhu
Juhu Beach is one of the few open stretches of sand in Mumbai where the city seems to slow down: families, street vendors and cricket players share the shoreline facing the Arabian Sea.
