What to see in Leh

1. Palais de Leh
   This nine-storey palace rises above Leh and tells the story of a kingdom that controlled trade between Central Asia and India.
2. Shanti Stupa
   This white stupa rises above Leh and offers one of the clearest views over the Indus valley and the peaks of Ladakh.
3. Monastère de Thiksey
   The monastery rises in white tiers on a hilltop above the Indus valley, its silhouette recalling the great monastic complexes of Tibet.
4. Lac Pangong (excursion)
   This high-altitude salt lake stretches about 134 km, but only around a third of it lies in India.
5. Monastère de Hemis
   Hemis is one of the largest monasteries in Ladakh, set in a deep valley above 3,500 m.
6. Vallée de la Nubra & Khardung La
   The crossing of Khardung La takes you from a barren high plateau down into a green valley lined with poplars and willows.
7. Magnetic Hill & Gurdwara Pathar Sahib
   The site combines two very different places on the road from Leh towards Kargil: a hill where a car in neutral seems to roll uphill on its own, and a Sikh gurdwara built around large rocks, tied to a tradition involving Guru Nanak.
8. Marché principal de Leh
   Leh's main bazaar sits in the heart of the old town, where Ladakhi, Tibetan and Kashmiri traders work side by side in lively lanes.
