What to see in Guadalajara
- Hospicio Cabañas (Orozco)
This long, low neoclassical hospice, built around a series of courtyards, holds the chapel that José Clemente Orozco filled with murals. - Cathédrale & Plaza de Armas
Guadalajara's cathedral, with its two tall spires covered in yellow tiles, is the image most people keep of the city. - Tlaquepaque
Once a separate village, now absorbed by greater Guadalajara, Tlaquepaque has kept a centre of colourful colonial houses devoted to crafts. - Tequila (train ou excursion)
Tequila is the town where the drink of the same name was born, surrounded by blue agave fields whose landscape is a UNESCO World Heritage site. - Mercado San Juan de Dios
This huge covered market, which locals also call Mercado Libertad, shows Guadalajara without a stage set: stalls, cooking smells and conversations running from one counter to the next. - Chapultepec (avenue)
This broad, tree-lined avenue is one of Guadalajara's liveliest axes, in the heart of the Colonia Americana. - Tonalá (marché)
Tonalá is the town of potters and craftspeople on the edge of Guadalajara, and its big street market is where that tradition is on show. - Bosque Los Colomos
A large wooded park right in the city, on the edge between Guadalajara and Zapopan, where you can breathe in the shade of tall trees far from the noise of the avenues.
