What to see in Valencia

  1. Cité des Arts et des Sciences
A group of white, futuristic buildings set on wide turquoise pools, closing the old Turia riverbed in a walk that feels almost unreal.
  2. Mercado Central
The Mercado Central is a working market where people from Valencia still do their daily shopping, under a large hall of iron, glass and ceramic.
  3. Jardin du Turia
This park fills the old riverbed of the Turia, diverted after the 1957 flood, and runs across the city from west to east like a long green ribbon.
  4. Cathédrale & Miguelete
Valencia's cathedral layers several eras in one building: a Gothic core, Romanesque and Baroque portals, and a chapel holding a chalice presented as the Holy Grail.
  5. Playa de la Malvarrosa
This is Valencia's big city beach, wide and gently sloping, where locals actually swim, stroll and have lunch.
  6. Barrio del Carmen
The oldest part of Valencia's historic centre, a tangle of narrow lanes where weathered facades, quiet squares and murals follow one another.
  7. Lonja de la Seda
The Lonja is one of Europe's finest examples of civil Gothic architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
  8. Casa Carmela (paella)
Casa Carmela has cooked paella over a wood fire since 1922, facing Malvarrosa beach, and it treats the dish as the centrepiece of a whole meal rather than one item on a menu.
