What to see in Porto

  1. Ribeira & Pont Dom-Luís
The Ribeira is the riverside district where Porto looks its most intimate: colourful façades, narrow lanes, laundry hanging from windows and lively quays.
  2. Caves de Porto (Vila Nova de Gaia)
On the south bank of the Douro, facing the Ribeira, the cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia are where port wine has aged for generations, in dark stone warehouses that smell of wood and wine.
  3. Livraria Lello
This Porto bookshop combines a neo-Gothic façade, carved woodwork and a stained-glass ceiling, and it still feels like a place to browse rather than just to look.
  4. Torre dos Clérigos
The baroque bell tower of the Torre dos Clérigos rises above Porto's rooftops and works as a landmark from many parts of the city.
  5. Mercado do Bolhão
Bolhão is Porto's historic market, housed in a neoclassical building arranged around a large open central space.
  6. Palácio de Cristal (jardins)
These terraced gardens sit on a hill above the Douro and give you a proper green break just minutes from central Porto.
  7. Fundação Serralves
Serralves brings together a contemporary art museum by Álvaro Siza, a pink Art Deco villa and a large landscaped park in one place.
  8. Casa Guedes
This small tasca on Praça dos Poveiros is known for one thing: the sande de pernil, a roast pork sandwich in a soft roll.
