What to see in Faro

1. Vieille ville de Faro & Cathédrale
   Enclosed within its walls, Faro's old town shows a calmer, older side of the Algarve than the beaches do, with cobbled lanes, whitewashed facades and shaded squares.
2. Praia de Faro
   Praia de Faro is a long sandy spit between the Atlantic and the Ria Formosa lagoon, just minutes from the city.
3. Ria Formosa (parc naturel)
   The Ria Formosa is a long string of lagoons, channels, salt pans and barrier islands separating Faro from the Atlantic.
4. Praia da Marinha
   Golden limestone cliffs, natural arches and rock stacks rising out of very clear water: Marinha sums up what is most striking about the Algarve.
5. Benagil (grotte)
   A cave carved into the Algarve cliffs, open to the sky through a round hole in its roof that lets light fall onto a small hidden beach.
6. Ponta da Piedade (Lagos)
   At the tip of Lagos, the golden cliffs break into arches, stacks and grottoes carved out of the rock by the sea.
7. Mercado Municipal de Faro
   Faro's municipal market is a working place where locals do their daily shopping, far from the more touristy side of town.
8. Tertúlia Algarvia
   Set in a restored old building in Vila-Adentro, Faro's walled old town, Tertúlia Algarvia began as a group of friends' project to share the region's food, history and traditions.
