What to see in New Orleans

  1. Quartier français & Jackson Square
This is the historic heart of New Orleans, where colonial architecture, wrought-iron balconies and music drifting out of the streets make you feel as if you have stepped into another era.
  2. Bourbon Street
This is the loudest and best-known street in the French Quarter, where music spills out of every doorway and the party rarely stops.
  3. Frenchmen Street (jazz)
A few blocks of the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood pack in clubs where live music is the whole point of the evening, a world away from the bustle of Bourbon Street.
  4. Garden District
This residential neighborhood is made of grand nineteenth-century mansions set in gardens, under huge oaks and magnolias.
  5. Musée national de la Seconde Guerre mondiale
This museum tells the war through individual stories as much as through battles, with a strong focus on the American industrial effort.
  6. French Market
The French Market runs along the edge of the French Quarter, a short walk from the Mississippi, and it is one of the oldest public markets in the country.
  7. Bayou (excursion en bateau)
Not far from downtown, Louisiana looks completely different: dark water, bald cypress and Spanish moss replace the French Quarter facades.
  8. City Park
This large urban park is a green break from the French Quarter, set under huge live oaks, some of them among the oldest in the country.
