What to see in Las Vegas

1. The Strip
   This boulevard packs into a few kilometres what Las Vegas does best: themed casino resorts, glowing signs and buildings that seem to answer each other from one block to the next.
2. Fontaines du Bellagio
   The lake in front of the hotel hosts water jets choreographed to music, dancing to a wide range of songs in the middle of one of the busiest avenues in the world.
3. Fremont Street Experience
   This pedestrian street in downtown Las Vegas is the historic heart of the city, dating from before the rise of the Strip.
4. Grand Canyon (excursion)
   The Grand Canyon is a gorge more than 400 kilometres long, carved over millions of years by the Colorado River, and nothing quite prepares you for the scale of the rock layers stacked beneath the rim.
5. Red Rock Canyon
   This sandstone massif of deep red and orange sits about twenty kilometers west of the Strip, offering a real contrast of quiet and open space.
6. High Roller
   This observation wheel stands at the southern end of the Strip and offers a wide view over the resorts, the desert and the surrounding mountains.
7. Neon Museum
   The Neon Museum preserves the illuminated signs of hotels and casinos that shaped Las Vegas, rescued from demolitions and renovations over the decades.
8. Hoover Dam
   The dam is one of the great engineering projects of twentieth-century America, and standing beside it makes the scale of that effort tangible: a vast mass of concrete set across a deep canyon.
