What to see in Ho Chi Minh City

  1. Musée des Vestiges de la guerre
This museum tells the story of the Vietnam War through photographs, documents and military hardware, from the Vietnamese point of view.
  2. Palais de la Réunification
This 1960s palace has been kept almost as it was when the war ended for Saigon, with its reception rooms, offices and war room.
  3. Cathédrale Notre-Dame & Poste centrale
Two colonial-era buildings face each other across one square, in the middle of the modern city centre.
  4. Marché Ben Thanh
In the heart of District 1, this big covered market packs in the energy of Ho Chi Minh City: vendors calling out, the smell of coffee and spices, narrow aisles you squeeze through.
  5. Tunnels de Cu Chi (excursion)
This network of hand-dug galleries northwest of the city tells the story of the Vietnam War from ground level, or rather from below it, where fighters lived and hid.
  6. Pagode de l'Empereur de Jade
This is one of the most atmospheric Chinese temples in the city, where you walk through incense smoke among statues of deities and offerings.
  7. Bui Vien (rue des routards)
Bui Vien is Ho Chi Minh City's backpacker street, a loud, colourful and unpretentious stretch where long-haul travellers, night owls and locals mix.
  8. Cho Lon (Binh Tay)
This is the big covered market of Cholon, Ho Chi Minh City's Chinatown, and it works first of all as a wholesale market.
