What to see in Fez
- Médina de Fès el-Bali
Fez el-Bali is one of the oldest Muslim cities still inhabited, and its maze of alleys, souks and madrasas has survived with remarkably little interruption. - Tanneries Chouara
The Chouara tanneries are among the oldest craft workshops still in operation in the Fez medina. - Médersa Bou Inania
Built in the 14th century by the Marinid sultan Abu Inan Faris, the madrasa is one of the best preserved examples of the religious and scholarly architecture of that dynasty. - Mosquée & université Al Quaraouiyine
Traditionally founded in 859 by Fatima al-Fihri, the Al Quaraouiyine mosque houses one of the oldest universities still in operation, often cited as such. - Bab Boujloud
This monumental gate is the most famous entrance to the medina of Fez and makes a natural introduction to the old city. - Tombeaux mérinides (vue)
The Merinid tombs sit on a hill northwest of Fez and overlook the medina. - Jardin Jnan Sbil
Laid out in the early twentieth century, this garden offers a clear contrast with the density of the medina: shaded paths, ponds and lush planting, where you can find a calm that is rare in the city. - Palais royal (Dar el-Makhzen, portes)
The royal palace occupies the Fès el-Jdid district, founded in the Marinid period, and its gates give a sense of how visible power has been in the city.
