1. Jardin botanique & Hagley Park
   Set along the Avon and a short walk from the city centre, these gardens and the vast park around them give Christchurch its reputation as the garden city.
2. Cathédrale de carton (Transitional Cathedral)
   Designed by Japanese architect Shigeru Ban after the 2011 earthquakes, this temporary church has become a symbol of Christchurch's rebuilding.
3. Tramway de Christchurch
   This heritage tram runs a loop through central Christchurch and gives you a quick feel for the city, from rebuilt streets to the banks of the Avon and the central squares.
4. Gondole de Christchurch (Port Hills)
   The gondola lifts you in a few minutes to the ridge of Mount Cavendish, on the rim of the old volcanic crater that forms the Port Hills.
5. Akaroa (excursion)
   Akaroa is a small harbour town at the head of an old volcanic crater on Banks Peninsula.
6. International Antarctic Centre
   Right beside Christchurch's Antarctic base, this centre shows in very concrete terms how people live and work on the frozen continent.
7. Riverside Market
   This covered food hall on the Avon brings together producers, food traders and kitchens from around the world under one roof.
8. New Regent Street
   This small pedestrian street of pastel, Spanish-inspired facades stands out in a city centre that is otherwise rather restrained and British in feel.
