What to see in Zanzibar
- Stone Town (Maison des Merveilles, Vieux Fort)
The maze of narrow lanes, carved wooden doors and ornate balconies blends Arab, Indian, Persian, European and Swahili influences. - Marché de Darajani
Darajani is Stone Town's main everyday market, where residents have shopped for generations. - Île Prison (Changuu, tortues)
This flat little island, a short boat ride from Stone Town, keeps the traces of its past as a prison and later a quarantine station. - Nungwi (plage)
Nungwi is still a fishing village and a place where traditional wooden dhows are built, and its west-facing beach, busy at sunset, keeps that mix of local life and tourism. - Forêt de Jozani (colobes rouges)
Jozani Forest is the main refuge of the Zanzibar red colobus, a monkey found nowhere else in the world. - Ferme aux épices (spice tour)
- Paje (kitesurf)
Paje is one of Zanzibar's best-known kitesurfing beaches, thanks to a trade wind that often blows steadily and a shallow lagoon that suits learning. - Forodhani Gardens (marché du soir)
At sunset, the Stone Town seafront turns into a large street market: dozens of charcoal grills line the garden, and you eat standing up or on the benches, facing the Indian Ocean.
