1. Tour Blanche
   This round tower of pale stone stands on the edge of the gulf and anchors the whole Thessaloniki waterfront.
2. Rotonde & Arc de Galère
   Two Roman monuments from the early fourth century, built in the time of Emperor Galerius, that remind you Thessaloniki was once an imperial capital.
3. Ano Poli (ville haute)
   Ano Poli is the hillside quarter above Thessaloniki, largely spared by the fire of 1917, with steep lanes, timber and stone houses and Byzantine walls.
4. Musée archéologique
   This museum gathers much of what Macedonian soil has given up, from prehistory to the Roman period.
5. Marché Modiano & Kapani
   These two covered markets in the city centre show Thessaloniki at its most everyday: people come to shop, chat with the stallholders and eat on the go.
6. Aristotelous & front de mer
   Aristotelous Square opens onto the Thermaic Gulf on one side and the heart of the city on the other, framed by arcaded façades and café terraces.
7. Ladadika
   This pedestrian district of small streets beside the port was once the center of the oil and grocery trade, which gave it its name, from the Greek word for oil.
8. Sempriko
   Sempriko is a contemporary Greek table near the courthouse, slightly off the main tourist routes.
