What to see in Seoul

  1. Palais Gyeongbokgung
Gyeongbokgung was the main palace of the Joseon dynasty, set at the foot of Bugaksan mountain with the Seoul skyline rising behind it.
  2. Bukchon Hanok Village
Set between the Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung palaces, this hillside neighbourhood of sloping lanes is lined with traditional Korean houses and tiled roofs, with the city's towers behind them.
  3. N Seoul Tower (Namsan)
Set at the top of Namsan in the middle of the city, the tower gives a full 360 degree view over Seoul, with its dense neighborhoods, hills and the Han River.
  4. Myeongdong
Myeongdong is central Seoul's busiest shopping district, a tangle of lanes packed with cosmetics shops, fashion storefronts and street food stalls.
  5. Marché Gwangjang
This is one of Seoul's oldest traditional markets, and one of the few where you still eat elbow to elbow with regulars, surrounded by frying steam and vendors calling out.
  6. Hongdae
Hongdae is Seoul's student and arts district, where the street works as a stage as much as a thoroughfare.
  7. Cheonggyecheon
A stream that was buried for decades under an elevated highway and is now a walkway set below the streets of central Seoul.
  8. Palais Changdeokgung
Unlike the more rigidly axial palaces, Changdeokgung follows the lie of the land and lets nature slip in between the halls, which gives it a more intimate feel.
