What to see in Petra
- Le Siq & le Khazneh (Trésor)
The Siq is a narrow crack in the rock, more than a kilometre long, with rose-coloured sandstone walls rising on either side. - Monastère (Ad Deir)
At the end of a mountain path climbing through the rock, the façade of Ad Deir appears all at once, carved straight into the pink cliff. - Haut lieu du sacrifice
This summit holds an ancient Nabataean place of worship, with an altar cut straight into the rock and obelisks still standing. - Tombeaux royaux
These façades carved into the rose-coloured cliff line the colonnaded street, north of the ancient centre. - Petra by Night
The Siq path, lit by hundreds of candles and lanterns, leads to the façade of the Treasury (Al-Khazneh) in a silence very different from the daytime visit. - Petite Petra (Siq al-Barid)
This Nabataean site is much quieter than Petra itself, and it shows how the city was lived in rather than only how it was displayed. - Wadi Rum (excursion)
Wadi Rum's desert offers red and orange sandstone and granite landscapes, copper-coloured sand and natural arches that shift in appearance through the day. - Petra Kitchen
