1. Citadelle d'Amman
   The citadel sits on a hill shaped like an L above central Amman, and its remains span from the Iron Age to the Umayyad period.
2. Théâtre romain
   The theatre is built into the slope of Jebel al-Qal'a in downtown Amman, with its tiers following the hillside rather than flat ground.
3. Rainbow Street
   Rainbow Street is one of the liveliest streets in Jabal Amman, a hilly neighborhood of pale stone houses.
4. Jerash (excursion)
   Jerash, the ancient Gerasa, is one of the best preserved Roman cities in the Near East and one of the Decapolis cities.
5. Mer Morte (excursion)
   The Dead Sea is the lowest exposed point on Earth, and its extreme salinity lifts you effortlessly to the surface, so you can float while reading a book.
6. Mosquée du roi Abdallah Ier
   Completed in the late 1980s on Amman's hills, the mosque is named after King Abdullah I, Jordan's first king, who was assassinated in 1951.
7. Souk d'Al-Balad
   Downtown Amman's old souk is the city's oldest commercial quarter, with narrow lanes lined with textile, spice, gold and sweet shops, and small cafés where you can watch daily life unfold.
8. Jordan Museum
   The museum brings together some of the most important archaeological finds in Jordan, in a recent building in the Ras al-Ein district.
