What to see in Nairobi

  1. Parc national de Nairobi
The park lies only about ten kilometres from the city centre, yet you can see lions, giraffes, zebras and buffalo with the Nairobi skyline on the horizon.
  2. Giraffe Centre
The centre is one of the few places where you can get close to Rothschild's giraffes, a vulnerable subspecies found only in the grasslands of East Africa.
  3. Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (éléphanteaux)
This is not a zoo but an orphan nursery for baby elephants, located within the Nairobi National Park area.
  4. Karen Blixen Museum
This is the farmhouse of the coffee estate where Karen Blixen lived for several years, the setting that inspired her memoir Out of Africa.
  5. Musée national
The museum sits on a wooded hill just north of Nairobi, and its collections trace the natural and cultural history of Kenya, from human evolution to contemporary communities.
  6. Maasai Market
The Maasai Market brings together craftspeople from several regions of Kenya each week, selling beaded jewellery, carvings, leather goods, textiles and hand-painted objects.
  7. Forêt de Karura
A forest of over a thousand hectares on the edge of Nairobi, where tall indigenous trees, dirt paths and birdsong make the city's avenues feel far away.
  8. Bomas of Kenya
Bomas of Kenya brings together traditional homesteads from several of the country's communities on one site, which makes it possible to grasp Kenya's cultural diversity in a single morning without leaving Nairobi.
