What to see in Mombasa

1. Plage de Diani
   Diani is a long strip of white sand lined with palm trees, sheltered from the open ocean by a coral reef that calms the swell.
2. Fort Jesus
   This coral-stone fort has guarded the entrance to Mombasa's harbour for more than four centuries.
3. Vieille ville de Mombasa
   Mombasa's Old Town, known locally as Mji Mkongwe, keeps a network of narrow streets lined with coral stone houses and carved doors, shaped by centuries of Swahili, Arab, Indian and Portuguese trade.
4. Parc marin de Kisite-Mpunguti (dauphins)
   The park protects coral reefs and sparsely visited islets off the Kenyan coast, with clear water and a varied marine life.
5. Haller Park
   The park occupies a former limestone quarry belonging to the Bamburi cement works, restored since the 1970s through extensive replanting and ecological rehabilitation.
6. Forêt sacrée de Kaya Kinondo
   Kaya Kinondo is a sacred forest of the Digo, a subgroup of the Mijikenda, who still maintain its prayer sites and ancestral graves.
7. Défenses d'éléphant (Moi Avenue)
   Two large carved tusks form an arch over Moi Avenue, one of Mombasa's main thoroughfares.
8. Shimba Hills
   This small coastal reserve brings together forest, woodland and grassland within easy reach of Diani, offering wildlife and plants that are rare elsewhere in Kenya.
