What to see in Mendoza
- Bodegas de Luján de Cuyo (Catena Zapata)
This family-run winery in Agrelo, founded by an Italian immigrant in the early twentieth century, played a central part in putting high-altitude malbec on the map. - Parque General San Martín
Designed by the landscape architect Carlos Thays, this huge park is Mendoza's green lung, with shaded avenues, a lake and a hill that looks over the whole city. - Cerro de la Gloria
This small hill in General San Martín Park carries a large memorial to the Army of the Andes. - Valle de Uco (Salentein)
At the foot of the Andes, this Uco Valley winery pairs high-altitude vineyards with contemporary architecture by Bórmida & Yanzón. - Aconcagua (Puente del Inca, excursion)
Aconcagua is the highest mountain outside the Himalayas, and here you meet it from the valley floor, at the end of a mountain road whose colors shift with every bend. - Maipú (vélo & bodegas)
Maipú is the easiest way into Mendoza's wine country: flat terrain, roads lined with vines and poplars, and the Andes on the horizon. - Plaza Independencia
This is Mendoza's main central square, surrounded by four smaller plazas in a city plan redrawn after the 1861 earthquake, with wide streets and plenty of open space. - Mercado Central
This is the covered market where people from Mendoza do their everyday shopping, well away from the tasting circuits aimed at visitors.
