What to see in Kathmandu

1. Stupa de Boudhanath
   The great white dome of Boudhanath, topped by the painted eyes of the Buddha, is the heart of Tibetan life in Kathmandu.
2. Swayambhunath (temple des singes)
   Set on a hill west of the city, this very old Buddhist sanctuary brings together daily devotion, prayer flags and a view over the whole valley.
3. Durbar Square de Katmandou
   This is the old royal heart of Kathmandu, where tiered temples, palace courtyards and open squares sit tightly packed in a city that still lives around them.
4. Pashupatinath
   Pashupatinath is one of the holiest Hindu sites in Nepal, and religious life unfolds in front of you on the banks of the Bagmati river.
5. Thamel
   Thamel is where most travellers first land in Kathmandu, a maze of narrow lanes packed with shops, guesthouses, cafés and small Newar shrines.
6. Patan Durbar Square
   In a few steps this square brings together the old palace of the Malla kings, temples of brick, stone and carved wood, and the everyday life of Patan.
7. Bhaktapur
   Bhaktapur is the best preserved Newar city in the Kathmandu Valley, where brick-paved squares, carved wooden temples and potters' workshops are still part of everyday life.
8. Jardin des Rêves
   This neoclassical garden, laid out in the early twentieth century and later restored, is a quiet pause just steps from the bustle of Thamel.
