What to see in Vilnius

1. Vieille ville & Cathédrale de Vilnius
   Cathedral Square is the anchor of Vilnius: a neoclassical facade with columns, a freestanding bell tower and, just behind, the hill of Gediminas Tower.
2. Tour de Gediminas
   The last surviving piece of Vilnius's upper castle, this brick tower looks down over the old town from its hill.
3. Užupis
   Just across the Vilnia from the old town, this artists' quarter declared itself a republic in 1998, with plenty of humour and a genuine community spirit.
4. Porte de l'Aurore
   This is the only gate of Vilnius's old defensive wall still standing, and it holds a chapel upstairs where people have come to pray for centuries.
5. Musée du KGB (Occupations)
   Housed in the former KGB headquarters, the museum tells the story of the Soviet occupation of Lithuania in the very building where part of that history unfolded.
6. Halė Market
   Halė is Vilnius's big covered market, a short walk from the old town, and one of the few places where you see locals doing their everyday shopping.
7. Colline des Trois Croix
   Three tall white crosses stand at the top of a wooded hill in the Hills Park and look over the old town of Vilnius.
8. Ertlio Namas
   This restaurant occupies a 17th-century house in the Old Town, built for the master craftsman Jurgis Ertlis.
