What to see in Tbilisi
- Vieille ville & Bains de soufre (Abanotubani)
Abanotubani is the historic district where Tbilisi began around its hot springs, which is where the city's name comes from. - Forteresse de Narikala
Set on the hill above the old town, this partly ruined fortress gives one of the finest views over Tbilisi. - Cathédrale Sameba
Built around the turn of the 2000s on Elia hill, the cathedral overlooks the left bank of the Kura and can be spotted from almost anywhere in the city. - Avenue Rustaveli
This is Tbilisi's main boulevard, lined with plane trees and nineteenth-century facades, where theatres, museums and civic buildings sit side by side. - Pont de la Paix
This pedestrian footbridge of glass and steel arcs over the Mtkvari and links the old town with Rike Park. - Marché aux puces du Pont-Sec
This is a flea market and artists' fair spread around a bridge, where you dig through stalls crowded with Soviet-era objects, antiques and curiosities. - Mtatsminda (funiculaire)
The funicular lifts you in a few minutes from the city centre up the slope of Mount Mtatsminda, where Tbilisi spreads out in front of you, with its rooftops, domes and the Kura valley. - Barbarestan
This family-run restaurant cooks 19th-century Georgian dishes drawn from the recipe book of Barbare Jorjadze, often called Georgia's first feminist.
