What to see in Tallinn

  1. Vieille ville (Raekoja plats)
This has been the heart of the old town since medieval times, a wide cobbled square where you can still feel the old merchant city.
  2. Toompea & Cathédrale Alexandre-Nevski
With its dark onion domes and pale facade, the cathedral stands at the top of Toompea, facing the castle that houses the Estonian Parliament.
  3. Belvédère Kohtuotsa
Perched on Toompea hill, this viewpoint looks straight down over the red tiled roofs of the lower Old Town, with the sea and the harbour beyond.
  4. Telliskivi Creative City
This former industrial site of brick buildings and sheds has been taken over by Estonia's creative scene, and it feels like a city reinventing itself without erasing its factory past.
  5. Kadriorg (palais & parc)
Kadriorg is a baroque palace commissioned by Peter the Great for his wife Catherine, and its Estonian name means "Catherine's valley".
  6. Musée maritime (Lennusadam)
The museum fills former reinforced concrete seaplane hangars, and their huge domes now shelter boats, aircraft and a submarine.
  7. Balti Jaama Turg
This market at the foot of the railway station is one of the best places to see everyday Tallinn life, with producers' stalls, neighbourhood regulars and long-standing traders.
  8. Rataskaevu 16
Rataskaevu 16 sits in a historic house in Tallinn's Old Town, a few steps from Town Hall Square, and the setting of old stone and low ceilings is part of the experience from the moment you step in.
