What to see in Split
- Palais de Dioclétien
This is not a fenced-off monument: the palace is the living heart of Split, with homes, shops and café terraces tucked between Roman walls. - Cathédrale Saint-Domnius
The mausoleum built for Emperor Diocletian became a cathedral, so you step into a church that still occupies the original Roman building at the heart of the palace. - Riva (front de mer)
The Riva is the wide, palm-lined promenade along Split's harbour, right below the south wall of Diocletian's Palace. - Colline de Marjan
This peninsula covered in Aleppo pines rises above Split and gives you a real green break a few minutes from the old town. - Plage de Bačvice
This is Split's sandy beach, a rare detail on a coast of pebbles, and the one where locals actually go for a swim. - Marché vert (Pazar)
Pazar is where people in Split still do their everyday shopping, right outside the walls of Diocletian's Palace. - Konoba Fetivi
This family-run konoba in Varoš, tucked behind the Church of St Francis, serves unfussy Dalmatian fish cooking in a simple, well-kept dining room. - Villa Spiza
Villa Spiza is a tiny family-run table in a pedestrian alley a few steps from the walls of Diocletian's Palace, serving simple, homemade Dalmatian food.
