What to see in San Pedro
- Hol Chan Marine Reserve & Shark Ray Alley
Hol Chan means "little channel" in Maya, and it is a natural break in the barrier reef and one of the easiest places in Belize to snorkel among marine life. - Great Blue Hole (excursion)
This near-perfect circular marine sinkhole, more than 300 metres across, is a patch of deep blue set in the turquoise waters of Lighthouse Reef. - Secret Beach
On the lagoon side of Ambergris Caye's west coast, the water stays calm and shallow a long way out, a different feel from the reef side. - Caye Caulker (excursion)
Caye Caulker is a small, car-free sand island just behind the barrier reef, where you get around on foot, by bike or in a golf cart. - Front de mer de San Pedro (golf carts)
Along the San Pedro waterfront on Ambergris Caye, daily life runs on golf carts, which have largely replaced cars. - Bacalar Chico
At the northern tip of Ambergris Caye, this park combines mangroves, lagoon, coastal forest and barrier reef in a landscape that is almost untouched. - Lamanai (ruines mayas, excursion)
Lamanai is a Maya site on the edge of the New River Lagoon, tucked into tropical forest and reached by boat up the river. - Marché de San Pedro
This small craft market, set back from the beaches, brings together handmade jewelry, textiles and wooden carvings.
