What to see in San Juan

1. Vieux San Juan (El Morro)
   Standing at the tip of the Old San Juan peninsula, this Spanish fort guarded the entrance to the bay for centuries.
2. Castillo San Cristóbal
   It is one of the largest Spanish fortifications in the Americas, built at the eastern edge of old San Juan to guard the city from land attack.
3. Plage de Condado
   This is San Juan's city beach, lined with hotels and apartment buildings facing the Atlantic, where a stroll through town turns into a swim without any transition.
4. El Yunque (excursion)
   El Yunque is the only tropical rainforest in the US National Forest System, about an hour from San Juan.
5. Baie bioluminescente (Fajardo/Laguna Grande)
   Laguna Grande is one of the few places where tiny luminous organisms make the water glow at the slightest movement.
6. La Placita de Santurce
   La Placita is the old market square of Santurce, still working as a fresh produce market by day and turning into one of San Juan's liveliest gathering spots at night.
7. Plage d'Isla Verde
   This is San Juan's big urban beach, a long ribbon of sand lined with palms and hotels, where you go from city to swimming with no transition.
8. Paseo de la Princesa
   This mid-19th-century promenade runs along the walls of Old San Juan, under big shade trees and Victorian-style lampposts, with the bay opening up beside it.
