What to see in Punta del Este

  1. Playa Brava & La Mano
On the ocean side of the peninsula, Playa Brava is a wide curve of fine sand pounded by Atlantic waves, a world away from the calm river coast.
  2. Playa Mansa
Playa Mansa is the calm side of Punta del Este, facing the bay, with gentle water and hardly any surf.
  3. Casapueblo (Punta Ballena)
This white, sculpted house clinging to the cliff at Punta Ballena was created by Uruguayan artist Carlos Páez Vilaró, who let it grow in stages like a large inhabited sculpture.
  4. Isla Gorriti
Just a short boat ride from the port of Punta del Este, Isla Gorriti runs at a completely different pace from the peninsula: pale sand, fairly calm water on the bay side, pine trees and car-free paths.
  5. Port & lions de mer
The fishing port of Punta del Este still has a working waterfront feel in the middle of a very polished resort, with colourful boats, sailing yachts and fishermen going about their day.
  6. José Ignacio (phare)
The lighthouse stands at the tip of the fishing village of José Ignacio, facing the Atlantic, and feels like a quiet landmark far from the bustle of Punta del Este.
  7. Museo Ralli
This museum is devoted to contemporary Latin American art, in a quiet setting away from the bustle of the beach resort.
  8. La Barra
This small coastal village east of Punta del Este has kept a relaxed, bohemian feel, far from the bustle of the peninsula.
