What to see in Malé

1. Marché aux poissons de Malé
   On the edge of Malé's harbour, the fish market shows the tuna fishing that has long fed the country at close range.
2. Mosquée du Vendredi (Hukuru Miskiy)
   This is the oldest place of worship in Malé, built in the 17th century from coral stone, and one of the few surviving traces of the city's early architecture.
3. Plage artificielle de Malé
   It is the only real beach on the capital island, a strip of sand laid out beside the lagoon in the middle of a very dense city.
4. Maafushi (île locale)
   Maafushi is an inhabited island in the south of Malé Atoll where you see the Maldives at the pace of the people who live there, with sandy lanes, guesthouses and boats leaving for the nearby lagoons.
5. Banc de sable & snorkeling (Hulhumalé)

   This is where you understand what Malé's streets don't show: the history of the islands before and after the conversion to Islam, told through objects from the sultans' court.
7. Sea House Maldives
   This pier-side spot on the edge of Malé looks out over the harbour, the boats and the airport runway.

   Symphony has been part of central Malé's dining scene for a long time, and locals eat here as much as visitors do.
