What to see in Macao

  1. Ruines de Saint-Paul
All that survives of the church is its stone façade, standing at the top of a wide staircase, and that is exactly what makes it so striking: you look through it at the Macao sky.
  2. Senado Square
This is the historic heart of Macau, where the blend of Portuguese and Chinese influences is easiest to feel.
  3. Temple A-Ma
Dedicated to the goddess of sailors and fishermen, this temple set against Barra Hill is one of the oldest places of worship in Macau, and its name is the origin of the city's own.
  4. Macau Tower
At 338 metres, the tower lets you take in all of Macau at once: the peninsula, the islands and the big casinos sitting on the water.
  5. Cotai Strip (Venetian)
On reclaimed land between Taipa and Coloane, the Cotai Strip lines up oversized resorts, each with its own atmosphere.
  6. Taipa Village
This old quarter of Taipa island has kept a village scale, with cobbled lanes, colorful facades and Portuguese-style churches.
  7. Fortaleza do Monte
Built by the Jesuits in the early seventeenth century on a hill above the old town, this fortress helped defend Macao during the Dutch attack of 1622.
  8. Fernando's (Coloane)
Fernando's is a Coloane institution where Portuguese and Macanese cooking is served in a relaxed setting, a short walk from the island's southern beaches.
