What to see in Luang Prabang

  1. Mont Phousi
This wooded hill rises in the middle of Luang Prabang's old town and gives a 360-degree view over temple roofs, the Mekong and the Nam Khan.
  2. Cascades de Kuang Si
Deep in the forest, water spills from pool to pool across limestone terraces in a milky turquoise, then drops in one main fall.
  3. Wat Xieng Thong
At the tip of the peninsula, where the Nam Khan meets the Mekong, this sixteenth-century monastery shows the Luang Prabang style at its purest.
  4. Marché de nuit
Every evening the old town's main street fills with red canopies and stalls spread out on colorful mats.
  5. Cérémonie de l'aumône (Tak Bat)
Every morning at dawn, hundreds of monks in saffron robes walk silently through the old town streets to receive their food for the day.
  6. Musée du Palais royal
Once the home of the royal family, this early twentieth century palace blends French-inspired lines with Lao decoration.
  7. Grottes de Pak Ou (bateau)
At the meeting point of the Mekong and the Nam Ou, two limestone caves hold thousands of Buddha statues left there over the centuries by worshippers.
  8. Tamarind
This family-run table on the Nam Khan river, near Wat Sene, serves traditional Lao cooking.
