1. Château de Ljubljana
   Set on its hill above the old town, the castle is Ljubljana's landmark and its best viewpoint.
2. Triple Pont & Prešeren
   The Triple Bridge is where central Ljubljana comes together: three parallel crossings over the Ljubljanica linking Prešeren Square to the old town.
3. Marché central
   The market stretches between the cathedral and the banks of the Ljubljanica, and it is where the city does its shopping as much as its meeting up.
4. Parc Tivoli
   The city's largest park lies a few minutes' walk from the centre and works as the green lung of Ljubljana's residents.
5. Metelkova
   A former military barracks turned into a squat in 1993, Metelkova is a self-run enclave where mosaics, sculptures and graffiti cover the walls and tell the story of a command post reborn as a place of free expression.
6. Lac de Bled (excursion)
   A glacial lake ringed by mountains, with a small island at its centre topped by a church, and a castle clinging to a cliff above the water.
7. Gostilna Sokol
   Set in an old townhouse in the centre, close to the town hall, this gostilna recreates a rural Slovenian inn with heavy timber, 19th-century paintings and waiters in traditional dress.
8. Julija
   Julija sits in an old building in the medieval centre, on Stari trg, on a quieter street than the riverside promenades.
