What to see in Valletta
- Co-cathédrale Saint-Jean
Behind a plain, fortress-like façade, the interior bursts with gilding, marble and Baroque painting, and the contrast hits you the moment you step in. - Upper Barrakka Gardens
Set high on the bastions, these gardens give one of the finest panoramas in Malta over the Grand Harbour. - Palais des Grands Maîtres
Once the residence of the Grand Masters of the Order of St John, the palace is now the official seat of the President of Malta. - Trois Cités (Birgu)
Birgu is where the Knights Hospitaller settled before Valletta was founded, and it still feels like an old stone harbour town, quiet and lived in. - Mdina
Mdina is the old capital of Malta, a small fortified town on a hilltop where the quiet is striking and the honey-coloured stone glows in the light. - Blue Lagoon (Comino)
A shallow channel between Comino and the small islet of Cominotto, where the water shifts from pale turquoise to deep blue over white sand. - Marché Is-Suq tal-Belt
This 19th-century market hall, with its big iron frame and glass roof, is one of the few places in Valletta where everyday city life still shows. - Nenu the Artisan Baker
This former family bakery on St Dominic Street has been restored as a restaurant, and its stone oven is still used for ftira.
