What to see in La Paz

  1. Mi Teleférico (ligne rouge / jaune)
Here the cable car is everyday transport and, at the same time, the best view over La Paz.
  2. Marché des Sorcières
These steep lanes show that Aymara rituals are still part of everyday life in La Paz, not just folklore.
  3. Vallée de la Lune
Centuries of erosion have carved spires, ridges and gullies out of clay and sandstone, giving the landscape a lunar look just a few kilometres from central La Paz.
  4. Plaza Murillo
This is the political heart of La Paz, where the cathedral, Congress and the presidential palace face each other around a shaded garden.
  5. Salar d'Uyuni (excursion)
This is the largest salt flat in the world, a white plain stretching to the horizon on the Altiplano, more than 3,600 metres above sea level.
  6. Lac Titicaca (Copacabana, excursion)
Lake Titicaca sits at nearly 3,800 meters above sea level, under a crisp light that gives the water an almost unreal blue.
  7. Route de la Mort (VTT)
This narrow track cut into the mountainside drops from the freezing altiplano to the humid forest of the Yungas.
  8. El Alto (marché 16 de Julio, jeudi/dimanche)
This street market sprawls across dozens of blocks at over 4,000 metres above sea level, and it sells everything from motorbike parts to secondhand clothes.
