What to see in La Fortuna

1. Volcan Arenal (parc national)
   Arenal is an almost perfectly symmetrical cone, the youngest volcano in Costa Rica, and it erupted from 1968 to 2010.
2. Sources chaudes de Tabacón
   A river naturally warmed by Arenal's volcanic activity runs through dense tropical gardens, and you bathe in it much as you would in a wild stream, only warm.
3. Cascade de La Fortuna
   A waterfall that plunges into a natural pool at the bottom of a rainforest valley, a few kilometres from the centre of La Fortuna.
4. Ponts suspendus Místico
   This elevated trail takes you through the rainforest canopy, sometimes high above the ground on a bridge, sometimes in the deep shade of enormous trees.
5. Lac Arenal
   Costa Rica's largest lake was created by a dam, yet it blends into the landscape between green hills and the outline of Arenal volcano.
6. Cerro Chato
   Cerro Chato is an extinct volcano next to Arenal, and its crater holds an intensely green lagoon surrounded by wet forest.
7. Tyrolienne Sky Adventures
   You glide above the rainforest canopy on cables strung from one hillside to the next, with Lake Arenal and the volcano as a backdrop when the sky is clear.
8. Ecocentro Danaus
   This small private reserve near La Fortuna lets you explore the wildlife and plant life of the Arenal lowlands on foot, away from the crowds of the big volcano sites.
