What to see in Kuala Lumpur

  1. Tours Petronas & KLCC
The two glass and steel towers, whose floor plan draws on Islamic geometric patterns, rise above Kuala Lumpur and have become its most recognisable image.
  2. Grottes de Batu
A huge limestone cave turned into a Hindu shrine, reached by a rainbow-colored staircase beneath a towering golden statue.
  3. Merdeka Square & Sultan Abdul Samad
This is where the Malaysian flag was first raised at independence, and the square still carries that sense of national memory.
  4. Central Market
This pale blue art deco market hall is one of the most recognisable buildings in central Kuala Lumpur.
  5. Jalan Alor
This Bukit Bintang street comes alive at nightfall, when tables spill onto the road and grill smoke mixes with the noise of conversation.
  6. KL Tower
At 421 metres, the tower puts the whole city in front of you, with the Petronas Twin Towers in the distance, a view you simply cannot get from beside them.
  7. Thean Hou Temple
Set on the hill of Robson Heights, this large Hainanese temple dedicated to the sea goddess Mazu combines tiled roofs, red pillars and stacked terraces.
  8. Bukit Bintang
Bukit Bintang is where Kuala Lumpur feels most alive: big air-conditioned malls, streets of bars and street food, and locals and travellers mixing late into the evening.
