1. Casbah d'Alger
   The Casbah is a medina clinging to the hillside, where steep, narrow lanes still follow the layout of old courtyard houses.
2. Basilique Notre-Dame d'Afrique
   Perched on a promontory above the Bay of Algiers, the basilica is as much a place of Marian devotion as a lookout over the city and the sea.
3. Mémorial du Martyr (Maqam Echahid)
   The monument overlooks the bay of Algiers and honours the fighters of the War of Independence through its concrete architecture and wide esplanade.
4. Jardin d'essai du Hamma
   This botanical garden covers 32 hectares laid out as an amphitheatre at the foot of the National Museum of Fine Arts.
5. Musée du Bardo
   Housed in an Ottoman-era palace on the heights of the capital, this museum brings together archaeology and ethnography from Algeria, linking ancient remains from the coast with objects of everyday traditional life.
6. Grande Mosquée d'Alger (Djamaa el Djazaïr)
   Completed in 2019, the Djamaa el Djazaïr dominates the Bay of Algiers at the foot of the Sahel hills.
7. Tipaza (ruines romaines, excursion)
   Roman ruins set right on the Mediterranean coast, where stone remains mix with wild vegetation and cliffs.
